Specifications  
Appearance: Colorless, elongated, prismatic, or cubical crystals or white, granular or crystalline powder. Stable in air. Its solutions are neutral to litmus.
Solubility: Freely soluble in water, and even more soluble in boiling water; practically insoluble in anhydrous ethanol.
Identification (Chloride a): A white curdled precipitate which dissolves easily in ammonia should form.
Identification (Chloride b): The paper should turn violet-red.
Identification (Potassium a): A white crystalline precipitate should form.
Identification (Potassium b): A yellow or orange-yellow precipitate should form immediately.
Identification (Potassium): A white crystalline precipitate that soluble in 6N ammonium hydroxide and solutions of alkali hydroxides and carbonates should form.
Appearance of solution: Clear and colorless solution.
Acidity & alkalinity (1): Not more than 0.5ml of 0.01M hydrochloric acid or of 0.01M sodium hydroxide should require to change the color of indicator.
Acidity & alkalinity (2): A pink color should produce.
Bromides: NMT 0.01%
Iodide(I) (1): The substance should not show blue color.
Iodide(I) (2): NMT 0.005%.
Sulfates: NMT 300ppm
Barium(Ba): Any opalescence in the solution should not be more intense than reference solution
Iron (Fe): NMT 20ppm
Magnesium and alkaline earth metals: NMT 200ppm (as Ca)
Calcium(Ca)&Magnesium(Mg): No turbidity should produce within 5 min.
Loss on drying,105°C: NMT 1.0%
Assay (on dried basis): 99.0% to 100.5%
Sodium (Na) (1): Sample solution tested on a platinum wire does not impart a pronounced yellow color to a nonluminous flame.
