Appearance: White or almost white crystalline powder.
Solubility: Soluble in water, practically insoluble in alcohol.
Identification A (By Chemical test): A pale pink color should produce. On heating; gas evolves and the solution becomes red.
Identification B (Reaction of carbonates & bicarbonate: A white precipitate should form which dissolves on addition of an excess of hydrochloric acid
Identification C (Sodium): A dense white precipitate should form
Appearance of solution: Clear and colorless solution
Carbonate: pH of the freshly prepared solution should not be greater than 8.6
Chlorides: 150ppm max
Sulphate (SO4): 150ppm max
Ammonium: 20ppm max
