Identification B (Reaction B for benzoates): A white sublimate should deposit on the inner wall of the tube and no charring should occur
Identification B (Reaction C for benzoates): After crystallization, melting point should be about 122°C.
Appearance of solution: solution should be clear and not more intensely coloured than reference solution YS6.
Acidity or Alkalinity: Not more than 0.2ml of 0.1M hydrochloric acid or 0.2ml of 0.1M sodium hydroxide should require to change the colour of the solution.
Arsenic (As): NMT 2 ppm
Heavy metals: NMT 10 ppm
Chlorinated compounds: Any opalescence produced in the sample solution should not be more intense than obtained with standard solution
