Appearance/Description: Colorless crystals or white, crystalline powder/ granular crystals, slightly deliquescent in moist air.
Solubility: Freely soluble in water & very soluble in boiling water. Insoluble in alcohol & Practically insoluble in ethanol (96%)
Identification (Citrate): Solution should produce violet colour turning to violet blue
Identification (Citrate ): A light red color should produce
Identification(Sodium): A dense white precipitate should form.
Identification (reaction upon ignition): Upon ignition, it should yield an alkaline residue that effervesces when treated with 3N hydrochloric acid
Appearance of Solution: Clear and colourless solution
Acidity or alkalinity: Not more than 0.2 mL of 0.1M hydrochloric acid or 0.1 M sodium hydroxide is required to change the color of the indicator
