Description: White, hard, odorless fragments or granules or crystalline powder. Is deliquecent and hygroscopic.
Solubility: Freely soluble in water, in alcohol and in boiling alcohol; Very soluble in boiling water Soluble in ethanol (96%)
Appearance of solution: Solution should be clear and not more intensely coloured than reference solution Y6.
Identification (Calcium 1): Precipitate should insoluble in 6N acetic acid while soluble in hydrochloric acid
Identification (Calcium 2): The chloroform layer should coloured red.
Identification (Calcium 3): A white, crystalline precipitate should form
Identification (Chloride): A curdy white precipitate should insoluble in nitric acid but soluble in 6N ammonium hydroxide
pH (5% aq soln): 4.5 - 9.2
Assay: 99.0% - 107.0% of CaCl2.2H2O
Aluminium (Al): No turbidity or precipitate should form
Acidity or Alkalinity: Not more than 0.2 mL of 0.01 M sodium hydroxide should require.
Iron, Aluminum & Phosphate: No turbidity or precipitate should produce.
Magnesium & alkali metals: NMT 0.5%
Sulfates: NMT 300ppm
Barium(Ba): Any opalescence in the solution is not more intense than reference solution
Iron (Fe): NMT 10ppm
