Solubility: Miscible with water, with alcohol, with ether, with benzene, with methylene chloride and with most other organic solvents.

Identification (By IR): IR spectra of the Sample should be concomitant with Reference spectrum of Methanol.
Identification (By Chromatogram): The retention time of the major peak of the Sample solution corresponds to that of the Standard solution.
Identification (By Refractive index, 20 ± 0.5°C): 1.328 – 1.330
Appearance: Solution should be clear and colorless.
Acidity or Alkalinity: NMT 0.9 mL of 0.01M sodium hydroxide should require to change the color of the indicator to pink.
Alkalinity (as ammonia): NMT 0.20 mL of 0.020 N sulfuric acid is required to produce a pink color (3 ppm)
