Appearance: A white or almost white, crystalline powder or colourless crystals
Solubility: Freely soluble in water, practically insoluble in anhydrous ethanol.
Identification A (Chloride a): A white curdled precipitate which dissolves easily in ammonia should form
Identification A (Chloride b): The paper should turn violet-red.
Identification B (Potassium a): A white crystalline precipitate should form.
Identification B (Potassium b): A yellow or orange-yellow precipitate should form immediately.
Appearance of solution: Clear and colorless solution
Acidity & alkalinity: Not more than 0.5ml of 0.01M hydrochloric acid or of 0.01M sodium hydroxide should require to change the color of indicator.
Bromides: NMT 0.1%
Iodides (I): The substance should not show blue color.
