Appearance: White or almost white crystalline powder
Solubility: Soluble in water, practically insoluble in ethanol (96 per cent).
Identification A (By Chemical test): A pale pink colour should produce. On heating gas should evolve and the solution become red.
Identification B (By Chemical test): white precipitate should form which dissolves on addition of an excess of hydrochloric acid R1
Identification C (By Chemical test): A dense white precipitate should form.
Appearance of Solution: Clear and colorless solution
Carbonate: The pH of freshly prepared solution should not be greater than 8.6
Chlorides: 150ppm max
Sulphate (SO4): 150ppm max
Ammonium (NH4): 20ppm max
Arsenic (As): 2ppm max
