Appearance/Description: Colorless or slightly yellow, syrupy liquid and not more intensely colored than reference solution Y6.
Solubility: Miscible with water, Alcohol and with ethanol (96%)
Identification (By chemical test): The solution should be strongly acidic.
Identification (by Relative density, 20°C): 1.20-1.21
Identification (By chemical test): A dark green ring should appear at the junction of the two liquids.
Identification (Lactate): A blue color should produce.
Appearance of solution: The solution should not be more intensely colored than reference solution Y6.
Assay: 88.0% - 92.0% w/w
Sulphated ash / Residue on ignition: 0.05% max.
Sugars and other reducing substances: No red or greenish precipitate should form.
Calcium (Ca): 200ppm max
Sulphate (SO4): 200ppm max

Citric, oxalic and phosphoric acids: Any opalescence produced in the sample solution should not be more intense than that of reference solution.
Limit of citric, oxalic, phosphoric or tartaric acid: No turbidity should produce.
Chloride (Cl): No opalescence should produce.
Readily carbonizable substances: No dark color should develop at the interface of the two acid within 15 min.
Sugars: No red precipitate should form.
