Description: A Clear, Colorless or almost colorless, syrupy liquid; hygroscopic.
Solubility: Miscible with water & with ethanol (95%) slightly soluble in acetone ; practically insoluble in ether and in fixed oils & volatile oils.
Identification by IR: IR spectra of the sample solution should be concomitant with the reference spectrum of glycerin.
Identification (By Refractive index, 20 ± 0.5°C): 1.470 to 1.475
Identification (By Relative density): 1.258 to 1.268
Appearance of solution: Solution should be colourless.
Acidity or Alkalinity: Not more than 0.2 mL of 0.1 M sodium hydroxide should require to produce a pink colour.
